i think i should start doing more regular themed posts on top of the monthly movie review. having a theme decided for me on a regular basis would help me post more consistently, rather than leave me sitting here wondering wtf i care about enough to write about and what might not be so boring to read.
it should probably be movie-based and should be in list format. or not. lists are fun. easy to write and easy to read. i dunno. what would you like to hear bullshit, unprofessional, factually erroneous and offensive posts about? with bad grammar.
movies, food…. no politics. (btw, Christians, lay off gay marriage.)

If you can find it, Talisker Distiller’s edition 1992
I pay $50 a bottle. At that price, I think it’s best value for money. I had a friend over and we did a taste test with that, and Macallan fine oak 21. Now the two are completely different scotches mind you, but one’s a $300 dollar bottle, and the other is $50. Guess which one my friend preferred? And he doesn’t usually even like Talisker.
What else… You can usually find Laphroaig 10 for that money. Isle of Jura is in that price range I think. This of course is assuming you like smoky or peaty scotches. Macallan 12 is a staple, but have you ever tried the Macallan cask? That’s pretty good stuff. Harsh, but good stuff. Hmmm sometimes you can find Lagavulin for around $60. But if you can find that Talisker Distiller’s Ed, start there.
If you’re willing to try something else, try Booker’s Bourbon cut with a little bit of water. Of course it’s a bourbon so it’s on the sweet side, but shit it’s good.
Oh, and if you don’t like the smoky stuff, have you ever tried Oban? That’s around 60 bucks. Some people think Highland park is good, but I find it to be generic. Some of the specialty Glenmorangies are good… there’s one in particular that escapes me. It’s two words and sounds vaguely spanish. Oh, and you know, I don’t know how much a bottle is, but the Balvenie Doublewood is quite good. I’m pretty sure it’s on the cheaper end.
the theme idea is a pretty good one. i think you already write well, but a theme (e.g. coming of age stories, handling power and responsibility — big theme in action movies, etc.) can tighten up and strengthen the posts.
did you ever try glenlivet?

i’ve tried oban and like it. looking for the tallisker, but it seems to be about $75? i’ll keep looking. the balvenie double wood looks like the best option right now and should have been obvious to me since i just picked that up for a gift about a month ago. still going to look for that tallisker though… i’m curious. thanks!

Yeah, where I buy that Talisker is insanely underpriced. If you lived in NYC, I’d tell you where to get it, but you don’t so oh well. What’s gets really fun is when you drop a few more bucks and try the private bottlings, like Scott’s.

What about Laphroaig? Have you tried that? That’s some good stuff man. About a year and a half ago when I was drinking a bottle a week, I was buying a bottle of that every month.
